Looks to me like the only one taking "fire" here is Coop.

I suspect Coop will try the Nurenburg defence. No matter, it will be a good story and worth a beer.

Nein, was just following orders. Here's the story. Chief Sudduth just came on board relieving Estabrook. I had been doing the water for two years and knew how to do it. Never messed it up before. Sudduth was a hard man to know. He ordered me to put in a certain amount of chlorine, and it was two or three times the amount called for. I told him this, and he told me that his stripes made it the right amount. Here's the Nuremburg defense.
I did as I was ordered and drank that crappy water with the rest of you.
If this were Perry Mason, this would be the part where I yell, "Ok, I did it , I did it!!!"
Captain was very upset with all this. Chief Sudduth and I never got along after this butI got off Cochrane within maybe a month, and you guys gotta know that I'm innocent.

It only happened once with me. You and I were on the ship together only a few months, and if it happened again within those few months, the Capt. would have shipped us both off, I'm sure. I don't know what second time you were talking about, but it wasn't with me. I promise, it happened exactly like I said. I wasn't even going to mention this, except the offer of beer was more than I can stand. I notice that 35 years has done a lot to all of our memories, so who knows. But this I know, we only drank chlorine once on my watch. Not exactly the thing a former corpsman wants to say, but it only happened once and just like I said.
