My Dear Shipmates- I am sure you all are just as shocked, dumbfounded and numb still from the horrific events that unfolded before our eyes on National TV. It was my day off, so daughter awakened me right after the first tower was hit, and we watched the rest of it together, and any of our fellow members that have been up on that observation deck high atop that tower had to be especially whacked by it all. The reason I wrote this is to thank Sir John for the subtle and very efective salute he has cooked up and installed here for us. As per usual, you did a bang up job, and I sure appreciate your tallents and efforts! Thanks!

I don't know where this event is going to take our country, but unlike Viet Nam, everyone will be behind this one. In our wildest imagination I don't think we could ever have imagined such a cruel attack on innocent people. I haven't felt such an empty ache since my father died. A good sign I guess. At least it shows I'm more human than the bastards that did this. Far more human than the lowlifes that saw this as an excuse to gouge people by raising gas prices. It is amazing just how low some people will go. I guess that is why I'll never be rich. I have a conscience. I hope none of you have been touched by this attack personally. If so, you aren't alone. The whole country is suffering with, and for you.

I want to first thank John for putting the correct touches on our website. This event has all of us in a state that we could not imagine ever being in. I kept thinking about how my mother used to tell me she felt when Pearl Harbor was bombed, and thought that we now feel the same thing.

I have been busy for two day trying to help my 7th grade students make it through this. The problem is that I am having trouble making it through it myself. I hope justice is swift and FINAL.

I also want to tell you guys that a couple of exchange students we've had and their families have written to us concerned about our safety. One was from Germany and the other was from Yugoslavia, whom we just bombed two years ago. It feels good to have people concerned about all of our safety, and I feel that most of the world is feeling this concern for us. This really is probably not what those dogs intended to happen.

I pray that you all find serenity at this most terrible time.

I second that last line, Richard. Well said. You guys do not need to thank me for my "salute", it is my duty.

I heard the most appaling thing this morning on the radio. Wes you state that everyone will be behind this one but, sadly you may be wrong. The latest pole shows that ONLY 83% of Americans support any kind of retaliation. That is 17% (Americans??? hmmm) that wants to do NOTHING. This I can not believe. After Pearl Harbor, 99% supported war and 96% supported the gulf war, or so the report stated. What the hell is wrong with this country? Bush better not let us down on this one.<img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>
