LET ME SET ALL OF YOU STRAIGHT ON THE IDEA OF A VISIT TO THE ADAMS CLASS SHIPS IN PHILLY.

IF JOE SETS UP A VISIT TO THE LAST 3 AND MAYBE ONLY 2 REMAINING ADAMS CLASS SHIPS IN PHILLY, IT IS NOT FOR FREE. IN MY CONVERSATION WITH HIM ON WEDNESDAY I ASKED FOR A DOLLAR AMOUNT AND HE WAS NOT PREPARED AT THAT TIME TO GIVE ME A FIGURE. HE SAID HE WOULD CHECK WHERE HE HAD TO COME FROM AND GET BACK TO ME. THAT DATE WAS ALSO JUST A TENTATIVE DATE, NOTHING IS FIRM YET.

WHEN HE GIVES ME A FIGURE, AND A FIRM DATE, WE CAN DISCUSS HOW TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY. MY PERSONAL FEELING IS THAT THIS WILL BE A FOUR FIGURE AMOUNT OR MAYBE HIGHER. I ASKED HOW MANY COULD GO AND HE SAID SIX (6) PLUS HIM. HE WILL NEED NAMES, DATE OF BIRTH, SS # TO GIVE TO NAVSEA SHEAD OF TIME. THIS INFO MIGHT NEEED TO BE SUBMITTED 30 DAYS OUT.

WHEN I HEAR AGAIN FROM JOE, I WILL SEND OUT BULK EMAIL TO ALL.

ATTENTION ALL HANDS!

I try to cut down on the length of my emails and all I catch is flak. I have two pieces of information I am trying to confirm.

#1 I was told that there will be an open house at the Philly reserve fleet in April. Anyone who lives in or near Philly or has friends or relatives there who can confirm this would be of great help. If you find an answer, please email me direct with any information as to date and time. NO NO NO, I DO NOT WANT YOUR FRIENDS OR YOUR RELATIVES NAME OR ADDRESS. Being able to have several people from our group go aboard the Adams Class ships for FREE would save us money our group does not yet have. The other option is to pay our marine engineer contact in Mass to fly or drive down to escort us around on these ships.
We are not yet in a position where NAVSEA will allow the ADAMS CLASS DDG VETERANS ASSOCIATION to go aboard by ourselves. I have been unable to get a price out of this person for his service but I do not think it would be cheap.

#2 As for Savanna, Georgia, I was told that there is a group in Savanna looking for a ship to be part of a new museum there. I was told the group has money and pier space. Money of course is a very large part of saving any ship. I could buy half the ships in the reserve fleet tomorrow but if I did not have a place to put them I would be in big trouble. Knowing where the ship will be towed, what the weather is like, how big the population is, is there a dry-dock nearby, all this has direct impact on the money you need. Again any information on this topic would help greatly. I do not know if this group is part of the city or a private group. I called the C of C and all I got was a group that displays model ships.

TRIP TO PHILLY RESERVE FLEET
TO CHECK CONDITION OF
ADAMS CLASS SHIPS

THERE IS NOT
REPEAT NOT
A TRIP TO PHILLY PLANNED AT THIS TIME

WE HAD AN OFFER BY A MARINE ENGINEER TO GET US ON BOARD ALL THREE REMAINING ADAMS CLASS SHIPS
FOR A FEE.

I ASKED WHAT THE FEE WOULD BE AND HE SAID, "I'LL GET BACK TO YOU ON THAT," AND HE HAS NOT.
MY PERSONAL FEELING IS THAT IT IS "BIG BUCKS"
AND AS ALL OF YOU KNOW, WE DO NOT HAVE EVEN LITTLE BUCKS.

I ASKED NAVSEA ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO OR BETTER ABOUT OUR GROUP GETTING ABOARD FOR A CHECK OF THE CONDITION OF THE ADAMS CLASS SHIPS AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE. AT THAT TIME WE WERE NOT AN ORGANIZED GROUP AND HAD NOTHING TO SHOW TO THEM THAT WE WERE ANYTHING MORE THAN A BUNCH OF OLD FARTS WANTING TO LOOK AT OUR SHIP ONE LAST TIME.

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS AN "OPEN HOUSE" IN PHILLY SOMETIME IN APRIL. I WILL ASSUME THIS IS FREE TO THE PUBLIC AND FREE IS ALL WE CAN AFFORD.

WHEN I CAN CONFIRM THE "OPEN HOUSE" I WILL PASS THE INFO TO EVERYONE. A FREE "OPEN HOUSE" WOULD ALLOW MANY MORE THAN THE SIX (6) THE MARINE ENGINEER SAID HE COULD GET ONTO THE SHIPS.

ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT A POSSIBLE OPEN HOUSE IN PHILLY WHERE THE 2 0R 3 REMAINING ADAMS CLASS SHIPS ARE BERTHED, PLEASE PASS ME THAT INFO.

DOES ANYONE HAVE INFORMATION ABOUT A GROUP IN SAVANNA, GEORGIA LOOKING FOR A NAVAL VESSEL TO PLACE IN A NEW MUSEUM THERE?

I HOPE THIS CLEARS UP ANY MISUNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE TRIP TO PHILLY. I WANT TO GO AND LOOK THESE SHIPS OVER AS MUCH AS ANYONE DOES AND I WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK FOR A WAY WE CAN GET IT DONE.
