Saw and taped No Way Out last night. A brief but awesome shot of Cochrane. Sure brought back memories. Looked like she was steaming all out.

I went back and re-read some posts. Yes there was a shot from the bridge showing 2 gun barrels but that doesn't mean it was the same ship. I think the Cochrane shot was probably just some stock footage they used to spice up the film with a awesome head on shot.

Wes, your right, The shot may have been a stock footage for the purpose of a dramatic head shot prior to the drama that unfolded with the sailor being washed over and the star saving him. That scene had some heavy seas. It was cool to see the ship steaming and cutting through the waves......<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

"turn 2" continue ships work.

Next days off I plan on looking closer. I'll pause the tape and compare it to pictures. I'm betting it's her though. She looked ready for a fight the way she was plowing through the rough seas.

I compared the ship in the movie to Cochrane pictures. I'm sure it is her. There were numerous reference points that were identical. There was a big difference in the radar and other twiget stuff above the bridge though. I'm assuming these were new and improved additions added over the years. In an earlier post it was mentioned that the tape was too dark to see the 21 clearly. This certainly wasn't the case in the version shown on tv. A way too short but exciting shot of the old girl. You hear her breaking through the water and you are there for a few seconds. Much better than a static shot of her tied up to a pier.

I remember watching some carpenters working on an old WWII can in Pearl. They were building a fake gun mount out of plywood. They were trying to get the vintage look for the movie In Harm's Way. When I saw the movie, I remember how fake it looked seeing the gun barrel vibrating.
I remember Marquardt telling me he was filmed calling cadence in a scene. I don't think they used it though. I've seen the movie many times and have not seen anyone I knew. In my memory they chose an entire duty section from the ship as extras for the movie. In other words, quite a few people. I was disappointed I wasn't in that section because I wanted to see John Wayne.
Have you ever noticed, almost all the war heros in the movies never served? They were too busy making money while the REAL heros made the sacrifices. Guess it's not a perfect world.
